last week justin and i went on vacation to jamaica. this was never on my list of vacation destinations (and i'm not sure why) but i'm so happy we went! we stayed our regular four days, and i have to say that this was the first time that the four day vacation went by too fast.
day one: our flight was only 5 hours long but when we arrived we had to take an hour and a half van ride to our resort. immigration and customs was a breeze. justin had read that they were terribly slow but those fools were wrong. we also had time to relax a bit in the sandal's lounge by drinking beer and and eating some snacks. a guy that worked there kept high-fiving and saying, "yeah mon, i know you like to party." seriously, he said that about 10 times.
we had to go through a village/up and down a mountain to get to the resort. when we approached the base of the mountain the driver warned us, "this is what i call the 'jesus christ' mountain because everytime i drive a group though it i always here 'jesus christ!'" at that point i began to hold tight and made sure my seat belt felt secure. it was definitely scary but the village was so beautiful it took my mind off the twisting and turning. the pedestrians had to have been ninjas because they always seemed to step calmly out of the way at just the right time. we passed by tiny houses, tiny bars and restaurants and tiny stores, a sugar cane field (from which they make their sweet, sweet rum), wandering farm animals (who must have had a little ninja training in them too) and lots of greenery. i didn't say "jesus christ" but i did mutter "ay dios" under my breath more than a few times. all of my photos are blurry because it was cloudy and the driver was going a grillion miles an hour.
when we arrived (in one piece!) at the sandals whitehouse resort they treated us like royalty from the get go and it continued that way throughout the whole trip. we didn't do too much that first night (because of a major headache i had) but we did allow some time to get familiar with the resort. we even spotted peacocks on top of the building and i cried out, "oh, god! how did they get up there!??" and a jamaican guy started laughing at me and replied with, "they do have wings you know." we missed the piano bar sing-a-long that night, damn headache!
day two: got up early for breakfast and spent the whole day at the beach (save for a couple of hours when it poured.) while it rained we shopped at the resort boutique because justin forgot to pack his t-shirts. now he has a red stripe shirt and a polo shirt that says "jamaica" on it as souvenirs. that night we saw a steele drum band and a fire eater as entertainment. justin actually danced! we were also shocked by an old guy dancing next to us that had amazing thrusting abilities. i really should have take video of that. after all the thrusting, we slow danced under the stars, had some martinis at the martini lounge and then called it a night.
day three: was much of exactly the same as the day before except i was way tired because of the drunken idiot next door who ditched her husband then forgot her room key and he wouldn't open the door for her. so i got to hear pounding on the door and shouting for a good 30 mins. we never get tired of laying on the beach and swimming in the ocean all day so that's exactly what we did. again. and it was wonderful. it always amazes me how many people swim at the pool rather than the ocean when they are on a tropical vacation. weird. that night we had more martinis, watched a band play, and had a little taste from the chocolate bar that was set up. we walked around the resort one last time to say our goodbyes.
day four: wasted away with travel! we didn't realize how early we had to leave the resort in order to make it back to montego bay in time for our flight. sad! we almost missed our connecting flight because of the slow customs department in charlotte. we had to run through the airport just like they do in the movies.
jamaica is paradise. the people were so nice (especially to justin! they really wanted him to get high) and they were always singing and high-fiving. i fit right in! this was the first 4 day vacation that we have taken that went by much too fast. but of course i was ready to come home when it was time!
