common ground.

last night i went to epik dance company's performance "common ground" and was blown away by some of the pieces. "breath" featured three sets of "situations" - a couple who constantly fight, two heroine junkies, and a man who has lost someone close. the music was perfect for the piece and my favorite was when the guy overcome with grief was krumping out his anger over losing someone he loved. yes, it sounds weird that krumping could look so heartfelt and beautiful, but trust me, it was! "above the law" was performed by a breaker guy who danced as if he were taken over by a can of spray paint. as in, the can was painting him and allowing him to move. awesome! "house of !" was fabulous. you know, fab-u-los. "where can we meet?" was written and performed by an amazing poet/lyricist. her poetry really touched my cold, black heart and i just had to find her after the show and let her know how amazing she was. she was very much thankful and i was saddened to find out she is from the bay area and that i probably won't get to hear her perform again. sigh. anyway, (this is getting to be longer than i had initially planned on) the finale "we are epik" was just the raddest thing i've seen. it's very hard to explain without seeing it (as all the others that i just tried to describe). but i'll remember that one forever for it's uniqueness.


i miss the feeling of being onstage dancing my heart out. over the summer my sister and i tried out a city dance class and was not impressed and didn't even end up going to the last session. i should have stuck with it, just for the practice and workout. but, ugh, i can't stand horrible choreography. maybe i'll get back in the game someday. hopefully.
